Really, must a sad sad bird be so colourful? :) But then again animals have no sense of what is the meaning of the loss of freedom, because when it has been provided with the necessities of life there is no other need to be satisfied that requires them to want to seek to live outside the enclosure.

Guess you are right, I don't think freedom is part of animals' basic survival needs. But how is being caged such a bad thing? There are no predators to eat you up, you don't have to worry about not finding enough food to survive. To animals which have 'survival' as their primary goal in life, which is worse? Out in the wild or being caged?
